Christ the King Lutheran Church, of the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ denomination, is a radically liberal congregation of about 40 members in Dodge City, Kansas. The congregation is comprised almost entirely of a single extended family. They call pastors without telling them that they don’t follow the Bible or follow Christian teaching. They have a reputation for attacking, harassing, demoralizing, and firing pastors who teach and preach Biblical Christian theology. They use their relationships in the community, including in law enforcement and government, to intimidate and threaten their pastors, often duping government agencies to go along by appealing to their status as a church in a town where churches are highly valued and protected.
All pastors considering a call to this congregation should follow standard pastoral ethics and refuse to consider a pastoral call to the congregation. Support of other pastors and the freedom of speech in the pulpit makes it incumbent on all pastors to support Pastor Powell, exercise the office of the keys in relation to this congregation, and refuse a placement or a call to Christ the King Lutheran Church in Dodge City, KS.
If you ignore this warning and are foolish enough to accept a call from the congregation then it should be a term of 5 years fully payable on early termination, with dismissal only possible with a 2/3 congregational vote, and only in the case that you have been convicted of a serious felony. If you ignore this warning and take a call here, know that this congregation has the resources in the community to have you set up on a felony charge using their relationships with local law enforcement by planting evidence or paying for false testimony against you. Do not be fooled by this congregation’s charming facade. The “honeymoon” period ends as soon as you sign a letter of call.

The congregation weaponizes law enforcement 3/12/2024 with this undercover officer and family friend after advised by their Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ congregational consultant to report him as mentally unstable for preaching the Gospel.
The congregation decided to fire a Pastor because he held a screening, that they approved at a council meeting, of Eric Metaxas’ film, Letter to the American Church. They don’t want him to speak of such things. They refused to follow the congregation’s constitution.
Here was the sermon preached on 3/3/2024. The Pastor was urgently trying to keep the congregation from adopting LGBT theology, which would be the death nail in it’s coffin in this conservative, family oriented community. This sermon was picked up by members of the community and shared supportively by Dodge City residents.
Pastor Powell did a national radio interview with Eric Metaxas on 3/14 . He starts at about the 13 minute mark.
